Citizenship Interview
Written on September 17, 2007
What a day! An Awesome Day!
I couldn’t sleep last night because I was so worry about today’s US Citizenship Interview. A HUGE pimple pops up on my face, urgg…g
Today I worked in the morning (at home) and left around 11:20AM. There was no traffic and we got to the INS Fairfax office at noon. We were lost a little and mistaken that HIIT US Flag building for INS office. After asking a kind man on the street, we got into a parking lot ($4.00/day paid up front) next to the actual INS building with a beautiful fountain. Since it was only noon and we have about 1/2 hour to spare, we went to a coffee shop next door (Sun Spot Cafe) for some snack. Pop ordered a Rueben sandwich and it was surprisingly good. VERY good actually! I had a cup of cap.
12:40PM, we walked to the INS building to checked in. I didn’t get passed security check because they detected a camera in my bag. Duh! Didn’t know that camera is now allowed. Pop ran back to the car to drop it off while I was waiting in the waiting room. When he returned, it was about 12:50PM, only 10 minutes before the interview appointment time.
I got into the 2nd floor, turned in my appointment letter at the reception and waited in a big reception area with other 10 (or so) people. I sat for less than 5 minutes and was called in by an Officer. A European descent (Hungary), very nice, very smart (gave me a couple of nice speeches of wisdom). The interview, the test, the application checking, all took about 15 minutes. It was pretty relaxing and I was able to be myself, no worry at all. The office called me “FIRE CRACKER” because I was pretty chipper and excited all the time. Hope he didn’t think that I was on crack. I told him I operated on STARBUCKS.
Since the oath ceremony was about to happen today (held daily at 2PM), he asked me to come back tomorrow to take the oath.
Wow…I feel a relief but not 100% rest (yet). Until I have that US Citizenship Certificate in my hand, I won’t be able to stop thinking about it
Now…back at home and working. Boss and co-worker have been very supportive, they let me take all the time off from work as much as I need to prepare and get it all done. I hope I’ll get a passport done quickly because Pop and I are planning to travel for a vacation in Canana! (Maybe Mexico)
